Day #65: Air Nailer & Compressor

Torstaina 19. marraskuuta 2009 · Marius

terve, jochen organized an air nailer from senco for us. i needed to get a compressor for this machine now. so i spent my evening in the local binford (*lol*) shop finding a suitable compressor. actually exactly in this moment HONKATALOT construction staff called me on my cell, making it easy to decide for the right machine. i hope i can fix the battens for the main floor with that tool set now a lot faster. i have scheduled to start with that maybe already tomorrow. as i haven’t been on site, i don’t know whether roofer had been there or not. let’s see. we are also in final negotiations regarding our heating system. i hope i can tell you more about that tomorrow.

Day #64: Roofer started finalizing the roof & Mitsubishi

Keskiviikkona 18. marraskuuta 2009 · Marius

terve, today our roofer klaus started finalizing the roof. he needed to wait for good weather w/o rain as the bitumen needs to be burned on top of the roof. i noticed the staff early in the morning on the site working on the roof. by the afternoon very windy weather arrived. while jochen and i did have a meeting with some folks of Mitsubishi Heating regarding Zubadan/Ecodan heating systems, we got a phone call by the end: due to the stormy weather our framework guiding the main power cable over the street collapsed and blocked the road. we are talking about a really heavy concrete socket. so jochen and i went to the site meeting with the electrician to safe the situation. luckily we could clean the road very fast and the most important: nobody had been hurt.

Day #60: Isolation Of Smaller Rooms & Chimney Ventilation

Lauantaina 14. marraskuuta 2009 · Marius

terve, i found out one interesting detail i was thinking about since we started to built the house: will i have the chance to see the “hermannsdenkmal” from my living room? well… to give you the answer: yes, we can!”. :-)

but back to the topic: i spent the day with doing some isolation work. first off all the job, which is really a pain: the windshield-foil which needs to be fixed first. this is a task i hate because it steals so much time. however, i found my own technique to do it quite fast now. the trick is to do not just one row, but all. next was cutting the STEICO canaflex in total. by that process you get good economies of scale. by the end of the day almost the whole living room had been finished (except for the chimney area) as well as the two smaller rooms. at the chimney area i first need to install ventilation tubes (150 mm) to support the chimney with fresh air.

ps: please note the great sky at 4 p.m.

Day #59: All Paint Jobs Finished & Rain Tube Paint Job

Perjantaina 13. marraskuuta 2009 · Marius

terve, finally steffi found the cable for the camera (so please see pics from last weekend some messages earlier). when i arrived at site i almost bumped into andreas, the managing director of fa. klöpper. this was also my first chance to see the sliding doors and the whole house during daylight with its windows. i first needed some minutes until i had my testimony: it looks cool! reason was that the colour is of course slightly different as we used meranti wood (instead of nordic spruce). there had been another guy still working on the isolation silicon for the windows all day. he did all the windows today. well… so back to the sliding doors. i think they are cool. they look quite massive due to the slightly darker wood. however, we expect that the nordic spruce will also darken a bid from how it looks right now. so in the end those both woods will almost look very similar within two, three years. the windows and sliding doors are completely impregnated and won’t change much anymore in its colour. as it was getting dark, the 2nd paint on the panels which had been installed last weekend, had been quickly done. also the rain tube got it’s paint job in black. i think it looks cool now. jani, what do you think?

Day #58: Crane Dismantled

Perjantaina 13. marraskuuta 2009 · Marius

terve, today the crane had been dismantled. when i arrived on the site early in the morning, the folks had already been starting to take down the elements. let’s see how pics of windows and sliding doors tomorrow will look. already excited?

Day #57: Main Door Installed & Windows Finished

Keskiviikkona 11. marraskuuta 2009 · Marius

terve, today fa. klöpper finished work on windows, sliding doors and also installed the lock in the main door. so the house is closed now and we have some keys. ;-) my collegue ralf already pushed me a bid at work when he demanded pix to be back. well… it’s all about steffi’s cable. ;-)

Day #56: Heating Decision

Keskiviikkona 11. marraskuuta 2009 · Marius

moi. we are currently in the middle of the process deciding about what heating system we should install. i’ve received quite a few offers now to compare about what experts suggest. i have already decided to go with a air-warmth-pump system. however, i had to notice that german vendors don’t seem to have much experience with such technology (even though classic plumber offer the classic vendors). the best was one of the vendor guys trying to explain jochen and myself that competitor product is worse… while in fact they buy half of their own pumps from that competitor. and as usual: everything which comes not from germany is bad. i don’t believe that and spent some more time investigating what’s the state-of-the-art technology. here i found out that MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC AIRCON have the right systems available and wide experience. we’ve seen their systems also in HONKATALOTs harri’s own house in finland in january. special about these heating pumps is that they work w/o additional electrical heating up to minus 15 degrees with full power (in opposite to all “good old german” systems). japanese folks seem to have much more experience with reversed fridge here. i highly recommend to everyone who needs a new heating soon to investigate a bid more about what different approaches are available on the market. and just because it’s not from german doesn’t automatically mean it’s evil or something.

Day #55: Sliding Door Installation

Keskiviikkona 11. marraskuuta 2009 · Marius

terve, ehm… steffi needs to bring me that cable so i can upload pics. on this monday staff of fa. klöpper installed the last windows. the two big sliding doors look gigantic. as i’m leaving off to work in the morning (when it’s still dark) and returning in the evening (when it’s again dark). so i can’t do pics until the week. anyhow. sliding doors are installed.
